HAFLONG, Apr 08: At least 31 persons including children were hospitalised after consuming curd from a sweet shop at Harangajao market on Friday. The incident came to light after several people including children suddenly started vomiting and developing nausea. They were immediately brought to Harangajao Public Health Centre for medical attention. Doctors there have suspected food poisoning since all patients have been brought under the same condition.
All the patients were later referred to Haflong Civil Hospital for further treatment on Friday late evening.
Local said that several consumed sweets from the shop ‘Mazumdar Sweets’ on Friday.
Dr. Parikshit Barman said that all the patients are stable and referred to Haflong civil hospital in case of any emergencies.
Meanwhile, a team of district administration, food safety department officials and police reach Harangajao market and raided the sweet shop and sealed it. The team also found several package food items with expiry dates and sweet samples were taken for laboratory testing. The owner of the shop Tushar Mazumdar was detained by police. On Saturday, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council CEM, Debolal Gorlosa visited Haflong Civil Hospital to take stock of the situation.
