BOKAJAN, Sep 04: The Bokajan police had on Sunday busted a vehicle transporting illegal goods along NH-39. Based on specific information from ASP(S) Karbi Anglong, Assam regarding the smuggling of a Burmese variety of dry areca nuts via Khatkhati from Manipur, a special checking was placed on NH39 near SBI on 03/09/2023 and at around 8:30 PM in the evening and detained one six-wheeler truck bearing regd no. AS-01PC-8349.
On a thorough search of the vehicle, a secret chamber was found behind the cabin, and the vehicle was taken to the PS for safe custody because due to insufficient light, the vehicle could not be checked properly at night. This morning, the vehicle was checked thoroughly and from the secret chamber was recovered a total of 3744.905 Kg of Burmese dry areca nuts.
Owing to this recovery, the driver and co-driver of the vehicle identified as Md Mohidul Islam, s/o Late Nazim Uddin of Molohu part II, Morigaon, and Md Abdul Rahim, s/o Md Abul Hussain of Shukatiputa Habi, Mayong, in Morigaon were apprehended immediately.
