DOLAMARA, Apr 02: Heavy rain and storm accompanied by hailstones this afternoon had left several houses shattered in Kania Tokbi village under Dolamara police station. The village falls under Duarbagori MAC constituency, the home of KAAC EM Richard Tokbi.
Though there are many houses with minor damages, four houses are the worst affected and out of which the houses belonging to Jet Engti and Bidyasing Kro are completely broken. The owners are left with no roof to shelter their families. As such, they have sought for immediate assistance from the KAAC leaders and other well-wishers.
It may be mentioned that this region of Karbi Anglong district is a regular victim of natural catastrophes like rain and storm. People here suffer a lot from this problem every year.
Villagers informed that in 2020, when the nation was still in lockdown, they had suffered the same problem due to heavy storms. In that situation, they were assured that new houses will be constructed for them by the local block office under the PMAY scheme. However, no house has been built till date.
