DIPHU, Apr 04: The forest department personnel today seized illegal timber from Daldali Forest in the Central Reserve Forest. As per secret information received from its sources, the forest personnel had conducted an operation and at around 6 pm in the evening and located a TATA Mobile truck laden with timber planks.
The truck bearing registration number NL 07 A7420, was abandoned by the smugglers as they had escaped the scene before the arrival of the forest personnel. It was parked inside the Daldali forest.
Ranger Officer Babul Rongpi informed that the seized timber was around 20 kb in quantity and the market price will be around Rs. 40000.
Locals have expressed their concerns over the rapid increase in the rate of timber smuggling in the area. They said that trees from the area are cut in large numbers and timber is smuggled to Nagaland.
The seized timber and truck were kept in the possession of the forest personnel.
