HAMREN, Mar 01: The mass rally and public meeting of the All Party Hills Leaders Conference at the West Karbi Anglong district headquarter Hamren town was concluded peacefully here today. A memorandum addressed to the President of India Draupady Murmu submitted through West Karbi Anglong DC Krishna Barua.
The mass rally has been organised by regional party in demand of immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution of India for creation of an autonomous state. In addition to this, the other major points of demands include framing of the election rules under Paragraph 2 , Sub-paragraph 7 of the Sixth Schedule to restore all powers of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council formed under it.
The regional party handed over the memorandum to WKA DC Krishna Barua by APHLC CC President JI Kathar, vice president Rajesh Tisso, general secretary Sarkiri Rongphar, spokesperson Angtong Ingti Kathar and others.
The regional party has demanded protection of the liberty, equality, freedom of speech and expression, right to shout slogan, right to hold peaceful rallies, processions and meetings of the SCs and STs and immediate withdrawal of section 144 CrPC imposed in the hills districts.
In addition to this, the regional party has demanded early resolution to the border issues, crackdown on against Bongo Sena among others. More than 8,000 party supporters took part the mass rally cum public meeting.
