DONGMUKAK, Apr 18: Phumang Sero Kachingthi, a Karbi traditional ritual to ordain a new village headman was held at Tekelangjun Bajin Tokbi village. Through this ritual, the rong asar or village headman Lumjong Tokbi was traditionally given the rightful charge of the traditional administration of the village.
Lumjong Tokbi is the fourth generation of his parents to charge as the headman. Thus, as per the traditional custom, the Phumang Sero Kangthi was performed in the presence of hundreds of people.
Among the guests who attended the event were Karbi Rong Asar Amei CEC general secretary Rupen Hanse, KRAA Korkanthi regional committee president Rohonsing Tokbi, GS Solai Rongphar, KRAA Paklongkam regional committee secretary Sukursing Tokbi, and headmen from the adjacent villlages.
According to the newly appointed headman, the first headman of the village was his great-grandfather Bajin Tokbi, followed by his grandfather Sar-et Tokbi and then his father Nihang Tokbi.
