BOKAJAN, Apr 19*: Sam Hanse Village, a 113 year old hamlet comprising of 60 houses inside Panjan falling under Nilip MAC constituency is hit by massive drinking water crisis as the village is still practically deprived of basic needs and infrastructure.
Residents have to walk atleast 3 kilometres daily to fetch water from uphill valley which is unhygienic for consumption. Locals expressed their grievances to TDE stating that Sam Hanse village was established in the year 1910 before the Karbi Anglong attained its district.
Since time immemorial, villagers have been fetching water from sources such as ponds, river and spring for all of their domestic uses. Even after attaining the district in 1951 recognised by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in the year 1995, the village is still deprived from proper drinking water when the district has full rights to exercise its power and implement development to every corner of the district.
The villagers have also expressed dismay over politician of failing to fulfilling their promises to end their grievances. The village has not experienced and witnessed any change and has been continuously deprived and neglected by successive governments including the current disposition.
Village Headman Dorison Hanse also personally has called upon the KAAC for its immediate response towards solution to their grievances. He also urged the concern authority, department and the local MAC Pabitra Rongpi to visit the place at the earliest.
