Burmese supari seized in Khatkhati

BOKAJAN, Apr 20:  Under the initiative of the Khatkhati police, illegal Burmese supari have been seized in Bokajan, from a vehicle plying along NH39. The seizure was done at Khatkhati in front of SBI.

According to the police, the intercepted vehicle was stopped at the Khatkhati police check-post at around 6 in the morning. The seized LP truck bearing registration no. NL 01 AC 0528 was carrying several bags of dried supari, hidden under heaps of stone chips. As the driver and his assistant abandoned the truck and fled before the police could catch them, it could not be ascertained as to where the supari was being taken, and where it was brought from. 

A total of 50 bags of supari were recovered from the truck. According to the police, the market price of the seized materials would be around Rs. 25 lakhs.

On the other hand, another seizure of Burmese supari was done at the check-post under Borpathar police station. A truck bearing registration number BR 07 GC 4499 had been seized in this connection. It was also reported that two other vehicles escaped the police’s catch.
