Says, third forces attempting to create conflict

DIPHU, Apr 22: The regional party has urged upon the KAAC conduct survey on the destruction of properties and to provide immediate compensation for the destruction through cutting down of betelnut trees, bamboos, Tejpatta (Cinnamomum tamala), bananas, cinnamon trees, chandan, lemon, and stink bean trees belonging to Mothade-B villagers by intruders from five Khasi villages comprising of Mojem, Molain, Mubhar and Behjhur.
The APHLC in their press statement asserted that even though the problem stated to be local, administrative officers and staffs from Meghalaya and Meghalaya police and leaders of Khasi Students Union were also part of the intruders who belligerently threatened them and declared that the whole area which has been inside West Karbi Anglong Autonomous District since 1951, is now part of Meghalaya state and they must all leave their villages and move to other places in West or east Karbi Anglong. The regional party stated that the KSU and others who came from Meghalaya were the main people who threatened the Mothade (B) villager. “The Assam police remained mere spectators,” the regional party said. The party also stated that Khasi group from Meghalaya are putting all effort to turn the local into inter-state boundary dispute chiefly because of the so-called “Give and Take Agreement” of 2022. The Assam police remained mere spectators. The APHLC however asserted that the local Khasi people are on very good term with the Karbi people.
The APHL also expressed their fear that the “Give and Take Agreement” policy will weaken and create division to make a huge chunk of the district be surrendered to Meghalaya. The regional party pointed out that under such circumstances, population of the twin hills districts of Karbi Anglong districts will be further reduced. While expressing their vehement opposition, APHLC stated that there will be no reasonable ground for the two districts to be governed by the Sixth Schedule to the constitution of India. While huge number of Karbis in the border now feel that, if Assam does not protect us and does not agree to create Autonomous State under Article 244(A) of the Indian constitution, then the whole of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong should be transferred to Meghalaya state for the sake of unity of Karbis and other hills people, asserting that they may find it easier to establish an Autonomous State under Meghalaya.
The elected leaders must clarify which villages and areas of West Karbi Anglong will be surrendered to Meghalaya alleging that the elected leaders are hiding the facts.
Further, the APHLC demanded CEM of KAAC, MLAs and MP for strong measures to ensure that not an inch of land is not surrendered toMeghalaya, put all effort to protect the village boundary of Mothade (B) village, and send post strong police forces and Executive Magistrates in the affected areas along the inter-state borders for maintaining of peace and security among the Khasi and Karbi people.
The APHLC also asserted that the Khasis and the Karbi people along the borders are living peacefully but some agents provocateurs use to sneak into the Karbi-Jaintia Hills border areas to cause tribal clashes there and to create enmity and hatred among the Tribes People. “We suspect involvement of Non-trib I RSS, BJP and Bangasena in all the clashes among the tribes people for weakening the tribes people for easy capturing of our political powers and land and to wipe out our identity and to convert us to Shudra Caste,” concluded the APHLC.
