KAWJF expresses concerns over disrespect to women by KAAC officer

DIPHU, Apr 23: Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) had expressed deep concerns over KAAC secretary Mukul Kathar’s disrespect and assault towards women. The organisation had demanded strict action against him regarding an incident involving the officer where he had allegedly physically assaulted a woman.
The incident happened on Saturday at Rongnihang near LBS Bakery, Mukul Kathar had a heated argument with his sister-in-law (wife’s elder sister) Malini Teronpi. The woman along with her friend was inside a Thar jeep parked in front of the bakery. In the course of the argument, Kathar raised his hand on the woman.
Later in the evening, Malini Teronpi went to Diphu Police Station and filed an FIR against Mukul Kathar for physically assaulting her. She also added that Kathar had gone to the home of her parents at Rukasen, Diphu and fired blank shots from his pistol in order to threaten the family to not approach the police.
KAWJF had vehemently condemned the act of Mukul Kathar, a very senior ACS officer and secretary of KAAC. They had convened a press meeting today at 2 pm at Members Hostel to express their sentiments. The organisation said that the whole issue may have aroused from misunderstandings within the family so it should have been settled peacefully among the family members.
KAWJF president Beaulet Beypi said that the gun license possessed by Mukul Kathar needs to be cancelled as there are big chances of him using it on anyone. She further said that such low action by a senior officer at the KAAC will have a really bad influence on society.
