DIPHU, Mar 10: Young athletes from Karbi Anglong district have won 6 medals at the Khelo India Women League Athletics Championship – 2023 (Khelo India Dus Ka Dum), held today at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati.
In the running race category, Kajir Millickpi won a gold medal in the 3000 m race, Rubina Teronpi won silver in the 800m race, Larlyn Timungpi won bronze in 800 m, while Samika Ronghangpi and Priya Koch won a bronze each in 100 m and 200 m race respectively. Meanwhile, Jirmalin Timungpi had won silver in the shot-put competition.
It may be mentioned that all the athletes are from Diphu Athletics Academy run by Pokhila Engtipi and Sikari Enghi. The master games athlete Pokhila Engtipi had led the young girls to the competition and she had expressed her happiness at the achievement of her girls.
The Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has organised the event as a celebration of International Women’s Day 2023. Starting today, the event will be held till March 31, in 10 different cities across the nation.
