KOILAMATI, Apr 28*: Several villagers under Nilip MAC constituency have expressed strong resentment over the apathy of a contractor from Dhurba of Jorhat district who failed to provide internet connectivity even after an agreement was signed between them.
With an aim to make India a digital country by the present government, a scheme was verbally implemented for providing a Jio Network by the assigned contractor for the following six villages– Sathi Rengma, Sing Teron, Mai Timung, Biren Hanse, Ok lankchar Modol Rongphar and Prothom Biren Engti in the month of Oct 2022. The contractor also promised to build a Jio tower at the residence of village Headman of Sing Teron village Sondoro Teron. for which a stipend of 3,500/- will be given. Locals also told TDE over the promise made by the contractor on how the scheme once established, would benefit the villagers.
However, when the network connectivity was inaugurated, the villagers realised that they were out of connection and instead, Upper Deigrum, Lokhon Hanse village and other areas that are at least 50 kilometers away from the network tower were connected digitally.
As such, locals have expressed dismay to the media over the situation and demanded immediate solution. Locals also added that the tower would take stern action on the matter if the contractor fails to act soon. Locals further stated that the villagers have given effort for a successful establishment of the network tower despite of their busy schedule and urged KAAC CEM Dr.Tuliram Ronghang, Deputy speaker as well as MAC of Bokajan and the local MAC Pobitra Rongpi to take stock of the situation and solve the matter for the benefit of the public.
