DILLAI, May 02: The long awaited Golden Jubilee Annual General Conference of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) kicked off on a high and colourful note at Khorsing Terang cultural playground in Dillai under the 21-Borjan MAC constituency on Monday evening.
The mega event commenced with inauguration of delegates camp at the hands of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council i/c medical EM Surjya Rongphar in presence of the KSA central committee president Thangsing Timung and others.
The second day on Tuesday began with hoisting of its flag by central committee president Thangsing Timung immediately followed by tribute to its departed leaders and members led by general secretary Budho Terang.
While speaking at the meeting, the KSA president said that gathering for the 50th year programme is a mammoth task as they are simply a students’ organisation that is focusing on education. He asserted that they are putting their effort to gather fragments to establish how and what went wrong in order to carry out the task fix massive challenges it faces. He informed the people’s demand for immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Constitution was chosen as the theme for the Golden Jubilee Annual General Conference theme. “We would also submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on this issue,” he asserted.
KAAC education i/c EM Richard Tokbi graced the open session programme held at 3 pm. The education EM was accompanied by other invited guests including Borok People for Human Rights Organization (Tripura) head Anthony Debbarma, Center for Studies in Karbi Language and Culture Director Longsing Teron, leaders of students organization from Manipur, Nagaland, and Dima Hasao were also present at the meeting.
While speaking at the open session, EM Richard Tokbi thanked the KSA for inviting him and providing the opportunity to interact and acquaint their issues. While reminding them of their main duty, he stated that they along with other students and youths, are the future of society and nation. He called upon the students’ body to stand firm in their mission and commitment towards creating environment for improving education for the secure future of Karbis of twin hills districts of Karbi Anglong and beyond.
He also called upon the students’ fraternity to pursue academic excellence and specialized field and career reminding that education is key to the existence of any race and society.
