Chief Minister Dr. HB Sarma lays foundation stones of development projects worth Rs. 2,500 Crore

DIPHU, May 04: Taking speedy steps for the development and progress of the hilly district, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stones for as many as 46 projects under Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and Health & Family Welfare Departments, among others, totaling approximately Rs. 2,500 crore. The official ceremony was held at KPH, Taralangso, Diphu.
Addressing the event, CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said today’s laying of foundation stones is aimed at fulfilling the promises made by him during the campaigning for last year’s elections to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The numerous road projects, including the improvement and upgradation of the 75-km long road connecting Hamren with Havarkehat at a cost of Rs. 922 crore, construction of a new Deputy Commissioner’s office complex at a cost of Rs. 26 crore, and other projects would prove decisive in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the residents of Karbi Anglong, the Chief Minister stated.
Speaking about the project for the construction of as many as 130 model Anganwadi centres at an aggregate cost of 300 crores and the Rs. 895-crore allotted for Jal Jeevan Mission, the CM said these projects manifest the commitments of the current dispensations in the State and at the Centre towards the upliftment of the residents of Karbi Hills.
“In the coming days, beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme would be paid a sum of ₹1400 per month,” he added. He also spoke about social sector schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and appealed to the members of the general public to make efficient of the facilities being provided by the government.
KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, HAD minister Jogen Mohon, KAAC speaker Raju Tisso, MLA Bidyasing Engleng and a host of several other dignitaries were present at the event.
Later in the day, CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended as the chief guest at the 50th anjual conference of the of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) held at Dillai. He praised the (KSA) for its role in the socio-economic development of the Karbi society. He also appealed to the members of the civil society organizations to work towards the socio-economic progress of the Karbi society.
The KSA, led by its president Thangsing Timung had submitted a memorandum to the CM regarding several demands for the development of Karbi Anglong. They also strongly demanded the implementation of Article 244(A) of the constitution of India.
