Meeting of Public Accounts Committee of Assam Legislative Assembly held in Haflong

HAFLONG, May 05: A two-day study visit of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee was held at Haflong, Dima Hasao on 3rd and 4th May, 2023. A detailed presentation pertaining to various ongoing departmental works, plans and performance, the financial status and others were presented to the committee members.
The committee meeting was attended by eight members of the Assam Legislative Assembly which was chaired by Wazed Ali Choudhary, MLA. Other MLA members of PAC present were Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Basanta Das, Utpal Bora, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Hafiz Bashir Ahmed and Karim Uddin Borbhuyan.
Officials from Dispur comprising of Addl. Secretary to Govt of Assam, Under Secretary and others were also seen accompanying the PAC.
The committee members closely discussed the projects under various departments and instructions were given especially to PWD to submit the report on a few of the projects which showed slow progress and also details about the contractors involved.
The committee also enquired about the NFSA cardholders and the total production of wheat and rice production-consumption report. They informed that there will be another meeting held at Dispur in this regard.
Expressing satisfaction over the Medical department’s performance in the district the committee congratulated the Jt. Director for their efforts and sincerity. Acknowledging the scopes and advantages in the field of tourism, the committee suggested that Dima Hasao district should gear up for a boom in the tourism sector post-completion of the National Highway connecting the Cachar belt.
The presentations were given by the respective HODs of the dept led by Principal Secretary DHAC, Thai Tsho Daulagupu and Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das.
