Woman trampled to death by wild elephant at Doloni

TUMPRENG, May 06: In a shocking incident, a mother of two children and wife of Sunny Rongpi, Lt. Onima Tokbipi of Duloni Teron village under Rongkhang MAC constituency of West Karbi Anglong District was trampled to death by a wild elephant in broad day light. The tragic incident took place in Duloni under the Dongkamukam Forest range falling under Vothatlangso Police Station. Locals informed that she was returning home from work with her six year old son and her youngest six-month old son on her back when a wild elephant turned up from nowhere in the middle of the road and attacked the trio, killing the mother and leaving 6 year-old son with critical injuries. Luckily the six month-old baby was left unhurt.
On getting the information, the deceased family members along with the Forest officials of the region rushed to the spot and took up the necessary measures. In connection to the incident, MP Horensing Bey also visited the resident of the victim and interacted with the family members and villagers of Duloni area on which the villagers expressed their grievances of frequent encroachment caused by wild jumbos to their areas.
