We have no land to give or take from Meghalaya: JCCPA

DIPHU, May 08: The Joint Coordination Committee for Protection of Autonomy (JCCPA) said that West Karbi Anglong has no land to neither get nor take from the neighbouring state of Meghalaya. This statement was made by the organisation leaders today during a press conference held at the ASDC office, Diphu at around 11:30 AM. The press meeting was attended by JCCPA coordinators Khorsing Teron, Saising Rongpi, Chandrakanta Terang, Robindro Rongpi, and others.
In the recent visit of the Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to Taralangso, JCCPA had submitted a memorandum on the long-standing unresolved inter-state boundary issue with Meghalaya and the review of certain clauses under the MOS 2021 which are detrimental to Karbis.
“However, the Chief Minister said that he did not have time to talk about these issues. Instead, he said the KAAC has the responsibility over the land in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong,” stated Khorsing Teron.
“We cannot accept the mandates of ‘give and take policy’. The land boundary between West Karbi Anglong and Meghalaya as per the boundary line demarcated in 1951,” Teron further stated.
JCCPA informed that on May 12, a sit-in-demonstration will be organised in front of Hamren DC’s office. They had appealed for cooperation and support from the people of both districts.
