DIPHU/HAMREN, May 10: Customary Karbi King Ramsing Ronghang passed away this morning at the age of 75, leaving behind his family and loved ones. This has left the position of the Karbi King vacant.
Hearing the news of his demise, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) deputed its four personnel to proceed to Moniram Ronghang Village, Nok Terang, Hamren, West Karbi Anglong for handing over the condolence message to the kin of the deceased king. KAAC expressed profound grief over the demise.
Ramsing Ronghang was coronated as the 43rd customary king of the Karbis in the year 2017, and had completed six years in the post at the time of his demise. He was also the 41st king before the coronation of Harsing Ronghang for a short term. He is survived by his wife Ka-et Teronpi, and children Basapi Ronghangpi, Dokpo Ronghang, Lahor Ronghang, Rupson Ronghang, Sompa Ronghangpi and Lokhan Ronghang.
The deceased king’s son Rupson informed that his father fell ill in the last part of 2022 and on November 18, he was admitted at DMCH after being diagnosed with jaundice. As his health deteriorated, he was taken to Dimapur Referral Hospital and put in an intensive care facility. Later, due to lack of money, the sick man was brought back home.
Biri Rongker at Ronghang Rongbong Rong Arak was the last ritual performed by the king. He passed again this afternoon at around 12 noon. His last rites will be performed on May 12.
People of the two Karbi hills districts as well as the Karbis residing in other parts of the world have mourned on the death of the customary king.
