5th Karbi Anglong Kishan Shramik Sabha held

DIPHU, May 11: The 5th conference of the Karbi Anglong Kisan Shramik Sabha (KAKISS) was held on May 8 and 9 at the Langtuk Phangcho Memorial Hall, Diphu. The event began with the subject committee meeting presided by KAKISS president Longkiram Tokbi. This was followed by a delegates meeting chaired by comrades Longki Phangcho, Jugo Hansepi and Bikrom Sing Terang. In the evening, Rabi Kumar Phangcho and Sumit Timung placed a draft document to adjourn the session.

The second day began with tribute and homage paying to the departed comrades. Then, a new body of the KAKISS was formed with Longkiram Tokbi retaining the post of president. Longki Phangcho was given the post of working president, while Bikrom Sing Terang was appointed as the new general secretary. 51 others persons were also included in the new body of the organisation. 

Later, several issues related to socio-economic, political and environment were discussed. They had expressed their displeasure over the uneven distribution of govt. schemes among the people. They accused the BJP led govt. of trying to snatch land from the hands of tribal communities by undertaking several projects in the name of forest protection.

In the public meeting held on the second day, former MP Jayanta Rongpi attended as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he talked about the various problems prevailing in the country and Karbi Anglong in particular.
