DIPHU, Mar 14: In a clarification letter on the news published on 6th March 2023 regarding – “Assam: Diphu Medical College Principal accused of ‘illegally’ collecting house rent from faculty members” by a Guwahati-based news portal NE Now, DIPRO Karbi Anglong stated that the KAAC authority had denied the accusation levelled on Diphu Medical College principal Dr. Sumitra Hagjer.
“It is very unfortunate that on 6th March 2023 misleading information and fabricated news was published in your NE Now news portal against Dr. Sumitra Hagjer, Principal of Diphu Medical College And Hospital, Diphu with a headline “Assam: Diphu Medical College Principal accused of ‘illegally’ collecting house rent from faculty members”. The news published failed its credential and misled by a third party which the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and Assam Medical Authority request your kind attention regarding the said matter,” wrote DIPRO Karbi Anglong Utpal Dimasa.
He informed that the authority of KAAC, Karbi Anglong sternly condemned the news and that Dr. Sumitra Hagjer, was only doing her duty as per KAAC authority’s orders.
“The KAAC Authority clarify the order copy issued to the Principal, Diphu Medical College where it’s clearly mentioned that Doctor of DMCH, Diphu staying at KAAC Member hostel will be free of cost, only maintenance services fee will be charged annually and will be collected by Principal DMCH, Diphu,” added DIPRO.
He further informed that the KAAC authority also said that such derogatory remarks on govt. officials without proper information and facts will not be resisted, ‘if necessary, a defamation case will be lodged for damaging the dignity and position’ of the officer.
“The KAAC Authority has requested NE Now News portal to clarify the news and if needed the KAAC Authority may provide details information of order copy and instruction given to Dr. Sumitra Hagjer, Principal DMCH, Diphu, but not to publish such news without proper information,” he concluded.
