CHOKIHOLA, May 15: An awareness programme on early child marriage and prohibition of child labour was held today at Marjong Club, Chokihola under Nilip MAC constituency. The event was a joint initiative of the Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum and Nilip So-Arlo Asong.
The objective of the programme was to make the local residents aware of the IPC and POCSO acts which strongly ban early marriages and prohibit any form of child labour. Early marriage is a common reason for unhappy couples and extra-marital affairs and child labour is a hindrance toward a child from becoming what he desires to be.
The event was chaired by KAWJF president Beaulet Bey, while Nilip So-arlo Asong president Malika Kropi felicitated the guests and resource persons.
Resource person Sabin Rongpipi spoke on the menace in society due to early child marriage and child labour. She said that the govt. is now taking strict measures to stop any more incidents of child marriage or child labour so everyone must be aware or be ready to bear the consequences.
The chief guest and Chokihola Police Station OC Ritupal Senchowa talked about the punishments that are given to those who commit child marriage and support or practice child marriage.
Akhoi pota SGB Welson Kro, Koilamati SGB Lorence Teron, Lokhon Hanse SGB Khorsing Hanse, SGB Arun Kro, GB Jonh Phangcho and many other local leaders were present in the programme.
