DILLAI,May 15:*A one day workshop on the Karbi customary law was organised by the Karbi Rong Asar Amei (KRAA) along with Borjan Havar Amei at Dillai Joseph Terang Memorial hall under Borjan Constituency here today. The session was presided over by KRAA Borjan Havar Amei’s President Kehai Tokbi on which Karbi Customary law was imparted to all the village Headmen based under Borjan Constituency. During the session Advocate DS Lekthe, Jivon Bey, Servison Timung were the resource person of the day.
The workshop aims to bring consciousness over the act and laws embedded under the provision of the 6th Schedule to the constitution of India.
Resource person Advocate D.S Lekthe distinctly spoke on 6th Schedule to the constitution of India, Customary laws, Civil code and Criminal act of India.
“To have a successful village traditional court, the vision of the chief and his associates must be righteous and impartial. One must forbid selling land, exchanging land, mortgage of land etc. All the cases must be heard lawfully through detailed documentation and penalties should be levied up to some extent,” the resource persons stated.
