Langsomepi Arnai Langso Lekthe village gets new headman

Correspondent KOILAMATI, May 16: Joykison Lekthe was today traditionally given the charge of the new headman or Gaon Bura (GB), of Arnai Lekthe Village located about 50 km from Koilamati under Nilip MAC constituency. Karbi Anglong is a district under the sixth schedule, here a GB is the customary administrative head of the village. The KAAC as per the Karbi Customary Law allows for customary administration of the villages under Karbi Anglong. Since 1975, the village was a part of the Resak Hidi. However, due to the far distance between them, people were facing problems in different matters. As such, the residents of Arnai Lekthe approached the headman of the old village for the solution and also requested permission to nominate a new separate headman. The request was accepted and today Joykison Lekthe was traditionally given the charge of GB. Karbi Rong Asar Amei, Koilamati branch president Dakiram Ronghang chaired the coronation event, while Sorjo Lekthe delivered the object of the gathering. As witness of the event, headman of the old village Hemson Lekthe performed traditional rituals to seek blessings from God. Sar kepathir alun or the traditional songs of coronation was sung by Dhoniram Ingti village headman Sardeng Ingti. East Mouza Mouzadar Pinpo Ronghang, Langsomepi VDP David Ingti, SGB Bapu Teron, Koilamati Wophong asar Raj Teron, GB Jaliram Ronghang, GB Sing Rongpi, GB Pitor Teron, and members of the more than 25 families under Arnai Lekthe were present in the programme.
