Says, will not accept eviction and are ready to lay down lives

DILLAI, Jan 013: The Ex-KPLT Welfare Society has expressed shock and anguish over demolition of their office by the forest department on Sunday morning claiming that their construction of their office started after receiving consent from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang. This was stated during a press conference convened on Monday.
Addressing the media, the ex-rebel group which was disbanded informed that their office falling under the Proposed Lahorijan Reserve Forest was demolished by the Lahorijan PRF forest personnel on New Year’s Day.
“We should have been intimated by the concerned department and the eviction was carried out without any prior notice or information. And the demolition and eviction was therefore, was casting aspiration on welfare group which was formed in 2022. Our purpose is to establish weekly market, medical facility and school in the area near the Asian Highway,” said the group.
“We are utterly disappointed and regard the eviction as slanderous and a direct challenge to us. We will not allow our land to be taken and we are even ready to lay down our lives for it,” the ex-rebel welfare group added.
The Ex-KPLT Welfare Society informed the media they would start rebuilding of their office from Tuesday onwards.
The press conference was led by Ex-KPLT (M) Welfare Society president Mensing Tokbi, vice president Joysing Singnar, general secretary Jemson Teron, assistant secretary Rowelson Hanse, spokesperson R.S Rongphar, finance secretary Dilip Kramsa, office secretary Rajen Rongphar and several others.
