HAVARKEHAT, May 17: The headman of Borjuri Kang Tokbi Village said that his villagers did not attack the members of Karbi Anglong Youth Welfare Union (KAYWU) on Monday and denied all allegations put on them by the organisation. This was stated during a press briefing convened on Tuesday by the village headman Prodip Tokbi.
Tokbi said that the mining activities in the locality have not harmed the waterfall and picnic spot as claimed by the KAYWU. The local forest beat personnel and also members of the local KSA regional branches are witness that both the waterfall and picnic spot are safe.
The headman informed that on Monday, when the members of KAYWU visited the area, villagers stopped them for discussion and clarifications on the false accusations against the miners. It was never meant to threaten them. However, it was the members of KAYWU who resorted to violence first and this led to further heated arguments.
The villagers also stated that the KAYWU had collected donations from them, and even though the organisation is in denial, there is proof. They appealed to the youth organisation not to create any more complications in the future.
