PHELANGPI, May 29: In a latest incident, a forest staff was allegedly attacked by Rajen Engleng, younger brother of sand mahaldar Bimal Engleng. This was disclosed by the victim to the reporters here today at Phelangpi in West Karbi Anglong district.
The forest staff identified as Dipen Terang claimed that he was beaten by Rajen Engleng at Matikhula Forest Beat Office. “I was rescued by colleague of forest department, home guard and local residents who were luckily present when the incident took place,” Terang said.
Further, the forest staff said, “I was attacked after I stopped bamboo being loaded in a vehicle of other group while I was performing my duty at a Matikhula check gate.” The forest staff added that he was attacked for demanding challan.
The forest employee said that he was attacked at Southern Range Kheroni office. The victim stated that the matter was escalated to the Ranger Dhonsing Terang for action but surprisingly no action was taken on the matter.
“Following that incident, I stopped going that check gate and returned back to the southern forest office,” the victim concluded.
