AASU holds dharna, submits memorandum to CCI factory authority

BOKAJAN, Aug 03: The Bokajan regional committee of All Assam Students Union (AASU) today held dharna for about two hours in front of SDO civil office today in Bokajan against issues related to Cement Corporation of India (CCI) which is a cement factory situated in Bokajan. The dharna was held this morning after the factory authority failed to take any measures towards mitigation of air pollution produced from the cement factory.

In its memorandum, AASU charged the management for failing to take measures towards reducing air pollution and also demanded extension and immediate filling up of vacant post expansion and demanded that recruitment of ITI passed out students from Karbi Anglong be appointed. During the intense demonstration, the students’ organisation chanted slogans against CCI General Manager. The dharna concluded after the General Manager of CCI interacted with the organisation at around 12:30pm.

Following a mutual interaction, the protesting organisation submitted a memorandum. The CCI General Manager in response to the memorandum assured the organisation to take up the matter to the higher authority along with the collective decision of the management team. The organisation also urged the authority to take the matter into consideration for the earliest time and warned of mass protest if their demands are not fulfilled.

The dharna was led by AASU Bokajan regional committee President Arnob Kakoti and accompanied by AASU Central Committee vice-president Sorjun Hanse, former AASU assistant general secretary Bedanta Saikia along with other esteemed leaders of the organization.
