BOKAJAN, Aug 18: Hearing about the poor health of Karbi fine artist Satyendra Terang, a team of the Assam Jatiyabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) led by Jitu Phukon paid a visit to his house on Thursday evening.
Satyendra Terang is the son of Late Baliram Terang and Pratibha Rongpipi. Presently he is residing with his family at Diphu’s Lorulangso near the Weekly Sunday Market. He was born on March 3, 1970 at Mukhim Rongpi village in Kuligaon under Bokajan Sub Division. He began his schooling at Amlapati LP School and then joined Government Boys’ High School Guwahati College and then studied at Diphu Government College. While he was studying at Guwahati Cotton College, the present Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was the general secretary of the college’s student’s union.
He always wanted to study science but the economic condition of the family did not allow him and inevitably had to take up humanities. He joined fine arts at Shanti Niketan Biswa Bharat, in West Bengal and got the degree in 1997. Coming back to Diphu, he formed the Karbi Anglong Fine Artist Association.
Satyendra married Rina Rongpipi and they have three children – Sonalika Terangpi, Replank Terang and Durmika Terangpi.
Some of his works visible to people are KAAC Entrance Gate, Deputy Commissioner’s Office Entrance Gate, Taralangso’s Thong Nokbe statue, Semson Sing Engti statue in Bokajan and the statue of Dhaniram Rongpi in West Karbi Anglong. He was among the first to inspire the younger generation in the field of fine arts.
During the COVID pandemic, in 2019 Satyendra Terang had suffered a pressure stroke which left his left leg and hand paralysed. Due to the pressure stroke his health further deteriorated and his sickness had hampered the financial condition of the family. His wife informed the visiting team that they are now facing problems arranging their daily meals. She also mentioned seeking financial help from KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang.
AJYCP’s Jitu Phukon is not only the pride of Karbi Anglong but the whole of Assam. He appealed to the KAAC and the public to come forward in support of the fine artist Satyendra Terang.
