APHLC and AJP join hands to safeguard state IPs’ rights and land

Declares united support for upcoming MP election

DIPHU, Aug 21: In the latest political development, All Peoples’ Hill Leader Conference (APHLC) and Assam Janajati Parishad (AJP) will jointly work together for the protection and safeguard the indigenous people of the state and their land. This was announced at the press conference convened at Hotel Hempi here in Diphu today.
The press conference was led by APHLC president JI Kathar, AJP president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan, APHLC general secretary Sarkiri Rongphar, and APHLC Vothatlangso (ST) LAC president Bikram Hanse among others.
Addressing media, APHLC president JI Kathar informed that a long discussion between both parties was held and accordingly, both the parties today resolved to fight unitedly for protection and safeguard of the indigenous people of Assam, land and people. “If any regional party is willing to cooperate with us, we would also welcome them to join us,” Kathar said. He also asserted that both APHLC and AJP would jointly fight to ensure that the rights and powers that are empowered under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India are fully given to the people.
And in a bigger statement, the APHLC president informed that both parties have agreed to cooperate and work together in the next MP election to be held next year.
Addressing the media, AJP president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi informed that the outcome of the meeting between the two was very positive. He said that it was high time for all regional parties to come together at the current juncture as the indigenous people of the state are facing threats to their land, territory, culture and identity. He said that they are fully aware of the KAAC and the local issues including education, health, road connectivity and a host of other equally serious issues.
The AJP president further stated that deep deliberation on how to solve the issues and problems was also made and that their party would extend their full support to ensure that the rights and powers of the people of the Sixth Schedule are ensured and fully protected.
