BIRSINGKI, Aug 22: Khumraikhora LP School is lying in extremely appalling condition with no doors and windows and leaking roofs. The school is located in Khumraikhora village under Duar-Amla constituency, West Karbi Anglong. When a team of the All Tiwa Students Union (ATSU) Karbi Anglong District Committee visited the school they found the school empty.
“Villagers informed us that there are a good number of students studying in the school. They have accused the irregularities of the teacher Karan Chauhan of the poor condition of the school,” said ATSU Central Committee Assistant General Secretary Promod Sagra while talking to TDE.
“We have been told that Karan Chauhan is very irregular in conducting classes. Only once in week, or sometimes once in a couple of weeks he would come to school and teach. On other days, the school remains closed and becomes the shelter of goats and other animals,” he added.
Promod Sagra also told that the school has nothing in the name of furniture. There are no desks and benches for the students and nor chairs or tables. There is no drinking water facilities, toilet and no signboard for the school.
It may be mentioned that about five years ago, Khumraikhora LP School did not have any teachers and it was on the verge of closing down. It was under the initiative of the local MAC Prabhat Ch. Taro that the school is now revived. Karan Chauhan was appointed to teach the students here.
Following this, ATSU had vehemently criticised the teacher for withdrawing salary without any guilt or shame and for not performing duties properly. The students’ body has also demanded that Karan Chauhan be transferred and put under suspension without salary for serious dereliction towards his duty.
The organisation further blamed the negligence of the concerned officers of the Education Department is also accountable for the current pathetic condition of the school.
