KOILAMATI, Aug 23: The Borjan LP School of Wophong Rongpi village located more than 10 kilometres from Koilamati is in appalling condition and is on the verge of collapse. Locals have called upon the concerned department and higher authority for their urgent steps to give new life to the school.
Locals told TDE that the school was established in 1983 and due to any lack of repair and renovation, the roof of the school is on the brink of collapse. The lack of separate offices and room for cooking is causing immense difficulties in mid-day meal preparation due to the archaic roof. Even though a temporary section has been erected for cooking, the lack of a kitchen, drinking water and boundary wall has only aggravated the suffering of the entire school.
While expressing deep dismay over the continued neglect towards the school by the concerned department, local residents charged that several schools have received various assistance for school, yet Borjan LP School has been repeatedly ignored for four decades. “Has the school never really received any assistance or annual grant in the past,” locals questioned.
If the school does not receive any attention from the concerned department, then the school will become a shelter for wild creatures and insects. Following this, local residents have called upon the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to accord the highest priority to their demand for the proper functioning of the school and the infrastructure at the earliest.
