DIPHU, Aug 23: Former general secretary and vice president of the Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) Chitra Kumar Bey was today paid tribute by the Karbi Lammet Amei and his family members.
Karbi Lammet Amei central committee organised the homage paying programme at their own office at Bonglong Terang road, 3 Km Diphu. The programme included the lighting of earthen lamps to seek blessings from the departed soul. KAAC EM i/c Art and Culture Department Surjya Rongphar attended the session as a guest.
A memorial talk was also conducted which was chaired by KLA president Barim Ingti and attended by vice president Karon Hansepi, general secretary Joysing Tokbi, adviser Lila D. Teron, United Khasi People Organisation president P. Rattane, Chitra Kumar Bey’s daughters Sermili Beypi and Rasinja Beypi and several others. The appointed speaker for the session was eminent writer and translator Khagen Ingti.
Speaking on the occasion, Khagen Ingti said that Chitra Kumar Bey is among those who dedicate themselves to working for society and thereby making historic events happen. He also said that Bey had inspired many new persons to join KLA and contribute to Karbi literature.
Chitra Kumar Bey’s contributions do not remain confined to literature alone. He had contributed to Karbi cinema and culture as well. He was also among the first advisers of Jambili Literary Foundation (JLF). He passed away in the year 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A memorial programme was also held at Beyrun, Rongmongve (Diphu).
