Parthenium Awareness Week observed in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU, Aug 23: The Parthenium Awareness Week was observed by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Karbi Anglong from 16th to 22nd August, 2023 at the office premises.
Parthenium, also known as Congress grass in India, is an alien invasive weed that was introduced in the country in 1950. It causes dermatitis, hay fever, asthma, and bronchitis in human beings and allergies in cattle. During this week, a cleanliness drive with activities like the uprooting of Parthenium and an awareness programme was organised.
Dr. Monuj Kumar Doley, SMS (Animal Science), mentioned the detrimental effects of Parthenium and addressed the gathering to destroy the weeds as much as possible which causes yield loss in agricultural crops. The programme was registered with the participation of Subject Matter Specialists of the KVK, other office staff and farmers from nearby villages.
