HAMREN, Sep 01: As many as 25000 tree saplings today reached Hamren Public Garden for the Amrit Brikshya Andolan, a mission to plant 1 crore young trees across the state on September 17. The aim of the mission is to increase the greenery of the state. Volunteers who have registered in aba.assam.gov.in for the mission will collect the saplings from different pick-up points and will be given Rs. 100 for planting the sapling and if it survives for three years, another Rs. 200 will be provided to him.
The initiative is taken by the Assam Government’s Environment and Forest Department under the directives of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. West Karbi Anglong Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rajib Engti with the help of his team including Forest Central Range officer Longkam Teron has brought the 25000 saplings to Hamren Public Garden.
After planting the sapling, volunteers will upload the photograph to the online portal. Self Help Group (SHG), ASHA (Health), Educational Institutions, Village Defence Parties (VDP), Anganwadi Workers, Tea Garden workers will play very important roles in the mission. The general public can also register in the portal and participate in the mission. West Karbi Anglong District Administration will look after the proper function of the mission in the district.
The slogan of the mission is “Plant today for a greener tomorrow.”
