DONGMUKAK, Sep 14: Leaders of the six former Karbi rebel leaders or the Karbi Ex-Revolutionary United Forum (KERUF) today visited Guwahati to meet the Managing Director (MD) of North East Cane & Bamboo Development Council. The purpose of the visit was to learn the methods and procedures to avail assistance from the council in order to cultivate bamboo and cane and also to run a business in craft works.
The cultivation of bamboo and cane is still a profitable work in Assam. The various furniture and decorative items made from these two items are very high in demand. As such, the KERUF is hoping to make their former cadres self-reliant and financially sound by giving them training and assistance in the cane and bamboo works.
The KERUF leaders including spokesperson Willingson Phangcho, finance secretary Run Rongpi and joint secretary Goodwinson Kro had submitted a memorandum to the MD on the matter. In response to the letter, the MD Omi Ningshen, IRS assured all possible help from his office.
