DIPHU, Sep 19: The East Karbi Anglong Garo Union (EKAGU) celebrated its 11th foundation day today at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe ) Memorial Town Hall, Diphu.
KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang who attended the programme as chief guest said, “Like Garos, every tribe living in Karbi Anglong should have the qualities of love and unity. Irrespective of autonomous state and border issues or any other issues, we all should work together unitedly to make a new Karbi Anglong. Every tribe and community living in Karbi Anglong should join hands and work together.”
“Rongkhang forest issue remained as a top agenda before every election and the false commitment of providing free land patta was made by former fleaders such as P.A Sangma, Elwin Teron, former MP Birensing Engti, former Minister Dhoniram Rongpi and Jayanta Rongpi. But I said, give your love and support accordingly and the Garo community has shown me love and support, I was elected. As per the Assam Government’s Forest Protection Grant Act, I declared Rongkhang Forest as an unclassified forest as part of fulfilling my commitment by providing free land patta to 8712 families including Garo, Dimasa and Karbi of that area,” added CEM Ronghang.
Meanwhile CEM Ronghang also assured to construct a hostel and community hall and also to provide free land patta to those residing in Klurdung area by November as mentioned in the memorandum submitted by the Garo leaders.
EKAGU president Prakash Sangma said, “I extended my heartfelt gratitude to KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang for his promise to construct a hostel and community hall in the heart of Diphu Town. Hopefully, CEM will also bless us by providing land patta to the Garo community living in Borlangpher, Nilalung and Klurdung area. We will always be with CEM Tuliram Ronghang,” he stated.
