DIPHU, Sep 24: Under the initiative of the Diphu Municipal Board (DMB), World Water Day was observed in Diphu today. The programme was also supported by the Karbi Anglong Administration, ASULM and CMMU Diphu.
As a part of the observation, a cleanliness drive was conducted by the DMB. Diphu MLA Bidyasing Engleng, Karbi Anglong DC Madhumita Bhagwati, Lumbajong MAC Jhonny Timung, DMB chairman Rah Kro and other dignitaries were present.
“Every citizen has the duty and responsibility to keep the Diphu River clean. It passes through the town and people have used it as a garbage dump. This should be stopped,” said Karbi Anglong DC Madhumita Bhagwati.
MLA Bidyasing Engleng said that not only Diphu River, but the rivers all over the district also deserve equal attention. “In Karbi Anglong, a large number of people are still dependent on rivers for drinking water and water for domestic use. So, we must not litter or pollute rivers,” he said.
