DIPHU, Dec 04: KAAC EM i/c Handloom & Textiles department Madhuram Lekthe urged weavers to maintain the original texture and patterns while producing their products as well as to maintain quality. He was speaking at the opening session of a Hon Kejeng or thread ginning training held today at Farmer Growth Centre.
The so-called traditional garments coming from outside the district miss the original textures and pattern, but these products have demand in the market, the EM said.
Lekthe said that the government has already banned the entry of ready traditional garments from outside. Those shops violating government orders and still selling the products from outside stern action will be taken against the shopkeepers.
He informed that under the Swanirbhar Nari Atmanirbhar scheme in Assam, the State government is helping those economically disadvantaged women to get financial support to start their own businesses for self-support. “Under this scheme, the government is also purchasing the finished products from local weavers. Now weavers don’t need to worry about the market to sell products, but the government is purchasing it,” he said.
District Commissioner (DC), Madhumita Bhagawati, ACS said Karbi Anglong has local Eri-silkworms rearers and spinners. This training workshop will help local weavers upgrade their skills in Eri silkworms rearing and spinning of Eri silkworms cocoons to threads by applying modern methods.
The trainer Chaudhury said he is a professional Eri silkworm spinner. He invented an electronic spinning machine called ‘Saraswati’ for spinning Eri silkworm’s cocoons into threads. Chaudhury taught the trainees how to spin threads from Eri silkworm’s cocoons from his spinning machine. He also urged the weavers to maintain quality in their products so that they fetched market value.
