During the formal meeting, speakers engaged in robust discussions on strengthening the legal and social safeguards for labourers, with a specific focus on dismantling what they described as the “modern-day labour slave culture” prevalent in private, commercial, and even government sectors.
“There is an urgent need to protect workers from inhumane conditions and ensure they receive dignity, equality, and fair treatment,” noted one speaker, echoing the sentiment shared by many present. The Union reiterated its mission to fight labour exploitation and promote ethical labour standards, calling for vigilance and policy enforcement at every level.
The Foundation Day celebration not only served as a milestone for the Union’s journey but also as a clarion call for collective action. Through such observances, the Labour Union aims to raise public awareness, foster solidarity among workers, and amplify the voice of the voiceless in West Karbi Anglong and beyond.
