MAILOO, Aug 14: The Diphu-Hamren main road at Kheroni Charali in West Karbi Anglong district has become a treacherous route due to its deplorable condition, marked by potholes and uneven surfaces. Located just 3 kilometers from the Assistant Executive Engineer (PWD) Kheroni Sub-Division office, this critical stretch connects key areas, including Donkamokam, the residence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, and Hamren, the district headquarters.
The road’s hazardous state has made commuting a daily ordeal for residents, students, farmers, and government employees. A recent incident where an oil tanker capsized at Kheroni Charali highlighted the road’s dangers and intensified challenges for commuters. Despite the road’s strategic importance and proximity to the PWD office, authorities and elected representatives have faced criticism for their inaction.
Residents are demanding immediate action to restore safe passage and address hardships faced by the community. Students struggle to reach schools, farmers face difficulties transporting goods, and government employees encounter delays in their daily commutes. The stretch has become a high-risk zone, posing serious safety threats to all who rely on it.
The lack of initiative from the Public Works Department and local leaders has sparked outrage among residents, who are calling on the KAAC, PWD, and elected representatives to prioritize this critical stretch and address the hardships faced by the community. Without immediate action, the deteriorating condition of the Diphu-Hamren road at Kheroni Charali will continue to disrupt daily life and endanger commuters in West Karbi Anglong.
