TUMPRENG, Aug 18: A new Karbi Language Study Centre was opened on Sunday at Ram Rongpi LP School under Dongkamukam. The centre will be utilised for conducting classes for the six-month certificate course in Karbi Language.
The event was attended by Centre for Study in Karbi Language and Culture co-ordinator Longsing Teron, DMB chairman Telisram Ronghang, ward commissioner Jitu Terang and several other dignitaries. All the guests spoke on the importance of learning the Karbi language and also having a certificate in its studies.
DMB chairman Telisram Ronghang expressed his happiness at the opening of the centre in Dongka and said that it would make the local youths accessible to the courses offered here. He appealed the local youths to take admission in the centre to know more about the language and culture of the Karbi tribe.
Longsing Teron informed that Ram Rongpi LP School will be used for only the first batch for a duration of six months. After that, if the number of students admitted to the centre seems considerable enough to keep the centre alive, then the school will continue as a centre.
Teron also appealed to the locals to motivate the youths to join the programme.
