DIPHU, Aug 23: A 2-day national seminar on “Assamese as a Classical Language: Linking its Heritage with South-Asian Countries” was held at Jirsong Asong, Rongkhelan, Diphu on August 22 and 23. The seminar was conducted by the Department of Assamese, Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) and sponsored by the Maulana Abdul Kalam Institute of Asian Studies (MAKIAS), Kolkata.
The two-day seminar was filled with several technical sessions wherein scholars from various universities, colleges and institutes presented their papers.
On the second day today, a session titled ‘Meet the Author’ was conducted, which was chaired by Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, HoD, Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur University. Among other writers, local writers, including Padmashree Dhaneswar Ingti, Ajit Singnar, Khogen Ingti and On Teron were present. Young Karbi poet On Teron is a former student of AUDC, who did his MA in Assamese from the university.
The valedictory session was graced as a special invited guest by eminent linguist and Sikari Tisso. The valedictory speech was delivered by Prof. Maheswar Kalita, HoD of Assamese, Cotton University. The seminar wound up with the vote of thanks by Prof. Kusumbar Baruah.
