VOTHATLANGSO, Aug 23: The Karbi Students Association, West Karbi Anglong District Committee, filed an FIR against one Mohd Reefjul Ahmed, alleging misuse of the ST(H) reservation quota in medical admissions.
In a memorandum submitted to the in-charge of Dongkamukam Police Outpost, the KSA alleged that Reejful Ahmed had wrongly availed benefits under the ST(H) category during the first round of MBBS/BDS counseling across Assam. The association claims this act not only violates reservation laws but also deprives genuine ST(H) candidates of their rightful opportunities.
Speaking to media persons, KSA West Karbi Anglong District Committee president Sarthe Ronghang said that more than 40 students from Karbi Anglong had passed the NEET exam, but one candidate, Ahmed, who does not belong to ST(H) community, falsely claimed admission under the ST(H) quota. If he had not claimed the ST(H)quota, a genuine ST(H) student could have secured that seat. He misused the provision and took away our rightful quota, Ronghang stated.
Ronghang alleged that in the past, a student from Jorhat JB College with the surname Das had also wrongfully taken admission under the ST(H) quota despite not belonging to the ST(H) community.
He asserted that this is not an isolated incident, but part of a repeated violation of the community’s rights. The Karbi Students Association (KSA), West Karbi Anglong District Committee, therefore demanded that the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and the Medical Selection Board Committee take immediate and decisive action against those involved.
Sarthe Ronghang called on the authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the authenticity of Ahmed’s claim under the ST(H) category. He demanded strict verification of all documents submitted during the counseling process and insisted that strong legal action, in line with the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, must be taken if the allegations are proven true.
Ronghang further declared that accountability must be fixed on those who issued the false caste certificate, stressing that they should be arrested without delay. He warned that if the authorities fail to act, the KSA will be compelled to take serious measures on its own. The association has pressed for urgent intervention, underscoring that justice and the protection of ST(H) rights in Assam cannot be compromised.
