Calls for women’s empowerment

DIPHU, Aug 26: A large number of women from Diphu, Dokmoka, Dengaon, Langlokso, and several other areas gathered with great enthusiasm to celebrate the 8th Foundation Day of the Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) at the Longkam Teron Auditorium, Dokmoka, today.
Five individuals from diverse fields—including entrepreneur Sabina Teronpi, social worker Moniram Ronghang, JAFA achiever Pratima Inghipi, sportsperson Pokhila Engtipi, and Assam Gaurav Award recipient Binong Teron—were felicitated by KAWJF for their contributions.
In her address, the Dr. Hongbari Ingtipi, SDVO, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary who attended the event as chief guest stressed the role of education in empowering women. “If we educate a man, he educates himself, but when we educate a woman, we educate her family, her community, and future generations,” she said.
Ingtipi also cited the example of Kabon Neli Tumungpi, a distinguished Karbi woman who was highly educated and among the most accomplished women of her time.
Other speakers echoed the importance of women’s education and shared their perspectives on empowering women. Adding vibrancy to the event were traditional dances and poetry recitations by women from various backgrounds.
The programme, chaired by KAWJF president Beulet Beypi, was attended by Dr. Hongbari Ingtipi, SDVO of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, as the chief guest. Special guests included JAFA awardee Moniram Ronghang, KNCA leader and JAFA awardee Protima Inghipi, entrepreneur Sabina Teronpi, and Pokhila Engtipi, a Masters Games gold medalist. Editor of The Drongo Express Helvellyn Timungpi and senior media professional Bikram Teron graced the occasion as guests of honour, while principal of Dokmoka HS School, teachers of Nihang Rongphar High School, KNCA leader Maikon Rongpharpi, members of the Karbi Cultural Society, members of Karbi Students’ Association (Inglongpho) Howraghat branch, KARSA along with several other dignitaries attended as guests.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by president Beulet Beypi.
