DIPHU, Mar 24: MP Horensing Bey appealed all social organisations for their support in order to accomplish the long-standing demand for an autonomous state. He made the statement on Thursday while addressing the gathering of KADHASDCOM and other organisations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi to demand the implementation of Article 244(A) of the constitution of India. The protest demonstration was led by Karbi Anglong-Dima Hasao Autonomous State Demand Committee (KADHASDCOM) president Ajit Timung, general secretary Sing Timung, KSA president Thangsing Timung, DSU president Dhiraj Diphusa and others.
The MP said that he had handed the reply he received from Home Minister as per 377 regarding the autonomous state in the last parliament session to the protesting leaders. He also had discussions with them on the private member bill to be introduced in the upcoming session of parliament.
“Today, we have met Minister of State (MoS) Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai at the Parliamentary Central hall and appealed to him for assistance in the implementation of Article 244(A) and the private member bill. He had assured all assistance from his side,” said the MP.

The MP had expressed his dissatisfaction with people from Karbi Anglong making fun of the team going to Delhi for the cause of an autonomous state. He said that such persons do not know the history of the long struggle for the sake of the motherland.
“There are people who are still facing cases in the court due to their involvement in statehood demand. People have not come to Delhi for vacation, they are here for a cause, the sake of Karbiland, leaving behind their families and several duties. No one should make fun of these people. Instead, people must come out and show their support in whatever means possible,” said the MP.
“We have already seen communal conflicts in past due to differences in opinions. People should see that no such situation is repeated again. We should fight in a peaceful way. Let people say whatever they want, we should not stop this fight for an autonomous state. We must keep coming to Delhi until our demand is fulfilled,” he concluded.
KADHASDCOM president Ajit Timung extended his gratitude to the KAAC leaders for their assistance in conducting the protest. He also informed that his team will be back in Delhi in July for another protest demonstration.
KSA president Thangsing Timung said that the need for an autonomous state had risen because several agencies are trying to dominate on tribal communities. The implementation of Article 244(A) will safeguard the rights of the indigenous tribes of the hills districts of Assam.
“Our struggle for an autonomous state is nearing 40 years. The BJP is at the Centre, State as well as in the KAAC. I am hopeful that this time the govt. will implement the provision which has been given to us by the constitution,” said Thangsing Timung.
DSU president Dhiraj Diphusa had also called all sections of people from Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao to join in the struggle. “Leave aside all political and other disparities and let us come and work together. We must stop criticising and making fun of one another,” he said.
Representatives from the KARSA, Tiwa Adorbar and KAWJF also took part in the event.
