DILLAI, Mar 25: A training programme pertaining to climate change with the theme ‘Adaptation and Mitigation in Agriculture’ was held at Rongplimplam club under the Borjan constituency here today.
The programme was organised by Gramin Krishi Sewa, AAU – Zonal Research Station, Diphu and sponsored by India meteorological Department. The resource persons of the programme comprising of Zonal Research Station Diphu chief scientist Dr. KD Singha, Junior Scientist (Soil-Science) Monjurima Gogoi and Agro Meteorology technical officer Tapashree Das were accompanied by AEA Mensing Tisso, Monsing Terang and several other members of SHGs at the programme.
During the programme, the resource persons stated that Karbi Anglong district along with the rest of the districts and regions of the northeastern states of India are witnessing climate change. The resource persons pointed out that the increase of temperature by 3-4 degrees and lack of rainfall is a direct indicator of the change which is a major cause of concern for everyone.
The resource persons urged upon the local population for their active participation in the protection and conservation of trees and forests which are critical to the future and existence of humanity.
The programme is part of the ongoing state-wide mission – ‘A Week of Life’ campaign suggested by Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.
