Bokajan Sahitya Sabha holds biennial conference

BOKAJAN, Mar 27: The Bokajan Sahitya Sabha successfully conducted its 25th biennial conference on March 25 and 26 at Bokajan Sports Association hall.

The first day of the conference began with the hoisting of the flag by the president of the organisation Rumi Baruah. This was followed by a homage-paying session led by the secretary Diganta Bora.

Later on the day, several competitions including drawing, poem writing, short-story writing and singing were conducted.

The second day began with the planting of trees. This was followed by a delegate’s meeting and then a cultural procession within the town.

Then, a public meeting cum closing was held, which was presided by Karbi Anglong District Committee Sahitya Sabha president Bhobesh Chandra Koch, while secretary Diganta Bora delivered the object of the meeting. Among the guests present were former Assam Sahitya Sabha secretary Podum Rajkhuwa, Horimohan Zigdung, Karbi Lammet Amai president Barim Engti, local leaders Surjya Saikia, Jitu Phukon and others.

The guests who spoke at the event stressed the need to preserve their mother tongue language. They said that the dying of language will also lead to the loss of the identity of the tribe. A souvenir magazine was also inaugurated by KLA president at the event.
