KOILAMATI, Mar 28: Koilamati and nearby areas in the Eastern parts of Karbi Anglong district today experienced very heavy rains accompanied by storms and heavy hailstones. This sudden play of nature had left several houses with damaged roofs and flooded floors.
It rained at around 10 AM in the morning. The very unusual and oversized hailstones had damaged the roofs of hundreds of houses and left owners in a pathetic situation. Fowls, areca nut trees, rubber trees, and several other properties of people both in the house and on the farms have suffered heavy damage.

Among the worst affected villages were Dhoniram Engti arong, Langtuk Hanse arong, Pung adong, Wophong asar, Arlong Pira Sar Tokbi arong, Pingkhat Ingti arong, Jayram Ingti arong, Longrum Hanse arong and adjacent villages under Koilamati. Most of the houses here were left with puddles of water inside with broken roofs.
Locals have appealed Nilip MAC Pobitra Rongpi, Bokajan MLA Dr. Numol Momin and KAAC CEM Dr. Tuliram Ronghang for immediate help. The poor villagers here are in a dilemma as they are seeing no source available to repair their houses. Above all, this is the time of new enrolment in schools, and most parents are yet to pay admission fees to their children’s schools.
Though Chokihola also experienced hailstorms, no damage to properties was seen.
