Nulding Kut celebrated in Haflong

HAFLONG, Jan 11: Nulding Kut, the post harvesting festival of Biate Community was celebrated on Wednesday with full of fervor and gaiety. The festival was organized by the Biate Cultural Organization at Fiangpui field in Haflong.
The programme commenced with colorful dance and welcome song following by a gathering cum meeting. This year’s main attraction was colourful cultural dances and folk songs. It is also customary for elderly people of the village to visit the house of the village chief to talk about their activities and taking feast together in utensils traditionally made. The festival is also been observed in all Biate Tribal community dominated areas of Dima Hasao district.
Ngulding Kut, which literally means ‘festival of renewal of life’, is the grandest festival of Biate tribes. It is held after gathering of all their paddy crops in their respective granaries. The occasion is also considered as welcoming of New Year and for new activities of life including cultivation and livelihood. During the festival, villagers come together to renew their future prospect on the other hand people forgive and forget their short coming sorrows and anger arising out of their past deed considering as a day of forgiveness.
