BIRSINGKI, May 19:  The long absenteeism of Umpanai PWD Road Division officer has raised eyebrows among the people of Amri constituency inside the West Karbi Anglong district. The habitual absence the officer has also affecting the image of the Team Karbi Anglong which is calling for work culture among the people.

According to locals, the Umpanai PWD Road Division LDA identified as Dalim Teronpi have been drawing salary regularly but has failed to show up for duties for most of the time. The LDA is the wife of Hamren Municipal Board former chairman Dilip Hanse.Locals further alleged that engineer identified as Dulal Dekaraja have also been equally guilty of negligence towards office rules by his long absence.

Expressing dismay over the blatant disregard for work culture, locals told TDE that the continued absence of the officer is contrary to what the Government of Assam and KAAC have been advocating. Further, locals reminded that the Umpanai PWD Road Division office should not turned into a place for amusement but a centre through which public services are delivered and executed.

“It is deeply hurting to witness many officials posted here for a short period of time and then get themselves transferred to their desired places and this has been going on since it was established. And it has been seen that officials who have few months left for their retirement are the ones who are posted here,” locals informed.

Following this, locals has questioned authority asking if the government has the audacity to take tough action against erring officials stating that they cannot be mute spectators to the affect of the absenteeism of the Umpanai PWD Road Division officials as it was affecting the work linked to the development and progress of Amri area. Locals has demanded KAAC for zero tolerance towards erring officials for unathorised absence in the greater interest and welfare of the general public of the district.
